COURSES IN FORT MACLEOD

GIRLS WITH TOOLS:

MECHANICS

Don't get STUCK on the highway waiting for help to change your tire anymore!  Join Scougall Motors in a pilot program geared towards ladies 18 and over, featuring:

· How to check oil, tire pressure.

· How to change a tire.

· How to change an air filter.

· How to jump start a vehicle.

· How to fill the fluids in a vehicle (oil, coolant, brake fluid, windshield wiper fluid).

· How to buy and install the proper windshield wipers.

· How to change fuses and light bulbs in a vehicle.

· What you need in a emergency road kit and how to use it.

Participants will receive a certificate of completion at the end of the course along with a celebratory refreshment and snacks.  Get the confidence you need to get the job done yourself!

FIREARMS SAFETY - PLEASE SEE DATE CHANGE

This class includes the manual, exam, and the government application form.  Topics

covered will be: the evolution of firearms,

major parts, types and actions; basic firearms safety practices, ammunition; operating firearms actions; safe handling and carry

procedures, firing techniques and

procedures, care of non-restricted firearms, responsibilities of the firearms owner/user; safe storage, display, transportation and

handling of non-restricted firearms. Students should bring a bag lunch.

NEW DRIVER EDUCATION

This course provides an extensive and engaging learning experience utilizing the latest in education practices.  It is geared for the student who:

· Already has a foundation of driving experience.

· Has an aptitude for driving.

· Has family that is fully engaged in the learning.

There will be 18 hours of interactive classroom instruction, and 10 hours of in-car lessons.

STANDARD CHILD CARE

FIRST AID                           

This 16 hour course is designed for professional child care workers but is great for parents and all caregivers.  This course includes emergency lifesaving skills and first aid topics with a focus on children.  The course includes Level B CPR (infant, child and 2-rescuer resuscitation and AED).  Must be minimum of 16 years of age.

TACKLING DEBT

Are you spending more than you intend and saving less than you want?  In a world of endless advertising and easy credit, its getting harder to live within our means and put money away.  Luckily there are ways to break the spending cycle and keep more of your money where it belongs...in your bank account. You’ll also walk away with a better understanding of Tax-Free Savings accounts, RRSP, RESP, and the importance of healthy credit.  We will also talk about where to cut costs in the

grocery store, what excesses you can avoid, how to use coupons to your advantage, where to shave money off your utilities, how to curtail impulse buying and the buyers remorse that often goes with it.

WORKING WELL WORKSHOP

As a well owner, it is your responsibility to take care of your water well.  Understanding how groundwater works, learning about your well and knowing how to properly operate and maintain it are the first steps.  Find out:

· The proper way to construct a well.

· The right place to locate a well to prevent risk of contamination.

· How to test the water in your well to feel confident it is safe to drink.

· How to properly operate and maintain your well.

· How and when to shock chlorinate your well.

· What to do about old or abandoned wells on your property.

The Working Well program provides you with the information and tools you will need to properly care for your well.

CREATIVE WRITING

Do you have a story to tell?  In this six-week class, we’ll look at different kinds of creative writing and give you a chance to express yourself through the written word.  Come prepared to have fun, take chances and share your stories.  Students should bring a pen and notebook or laptop.

SEED BEAD WEAVING

Learn three different types of seed bead weaving, the building blocks to more complex bead weaving.  We will complete a simple jewelry project each night and combine all three weaves to make a final project on the last day.  Cost includes tools and supplies.

SEED BEAD WEAVING

ON A LOOM

Learn how to weave a beaded bracelet on a loom.  Learn how to finish a project without typing knots.  Learn different variations and techniques to make unique designs. Costs include tools and supplies, and students get to keep the loom.

WOODTURNING -

AN INTRODUCTORY

COURSE

This course is designed to teach the basics of woodturning.   Each student will have their own lathe and their own tools to use and will complete at least two projects over the course of the two nights. Students must be a minimum of 12 years old. There will be a $20 student cost for materials.
